Safe and Effective: All Natural is My Objective

Chemical Free Cleaners

We try so hard to eat healthy, exercise, take good care of our children, keep our homes tidy and clean, yet we are surrounded by harmful chemicals that make it harder on us! Did you know that many of the standard home cleaning products can irritate skin, burn the eyes, attack underlying tissues and bone, affect hormones, and hurt vital organs like the lungs?

Why do we take that risk? I used to be all about the Windex, the Clorox Bleach, etc. until I realized just how harmful they can be, to not only my clients but to ME. I used to think that only bleach can get a shower clean enough, but my hands would burn and I would get light-headed and I finally realized that what I was doing was SO wrong. So, I have decided to migrate to an all natural cleaning arsenal. The products you see above are to hold me over until I can make all of my own products. Yes, you heard me, I’m going to start making all of my own products! I’m so excited!

Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products are made from mostly plant-derived ingredients and essential oils for efficient, and safe cleaning. It also smells really delicious, but I will warn you, it’s definitely a strong scent, so I dilute mine with water. Mrs. Meyer’s obtain their materials from renewable plant resources such as coconut, palm, corn, soy or olive and none of their products contain any chlorine bleach, ammonia, petroleum distillates, parabens, phosphates or phthalates which are widely known as some of the most dangerous ingredients in cleaners and other household items.

Seventh Generation is a company whose mission is to “inspire a consumer revolution that nurtures the health of the next seven generations” by making eco-friendly, safe, and sustainable home, beauty, and baby products. They have a “free and clear” product line that champions no synthetic dyes or fragrances, and I used their toilet bowl cleaner that is fume-free, septic safe, plant material-derived, and best of all- nontoxic.

I also use Bon Ami, a scratch-free powder cleanser made with feldspar, limestone, sustainable cleaning agents from renewable corn and coconut oils, and a touch of baking soda. They call it “America’s original natural home cleaner”! It literally has no smell, so you’ll never be inhaling toxic fumes, and it does an AMAZING job. It’s probably my favorite cleaner. Most notably, it received a “A” rating from EWG (Environmental Working Group) for it’s low concern ratings for skin allergies and irritation, developmental and reproductive toxicity, cancer, and environmental concerns.

I have a batch marinating right now and am about to strain it and try it out! Check back to see how it works this time around. Once I perfect this recipe, I want to move on to making some different kinds of cleaners with essential oils and eventually move to a cleaning arsenal of all “Shine-made” cleaning products that are nontoxic, eco-friendly, and all natural!
